Sunday, July 11th,
the day that is for everyone, fencers and non-fencers alike…
in fact everyone that is involved in the sport
What can we offer you, your fellow fencers, your family….
A good day out …
A good lunch …
A chance to chat with fellow fencers, fellow parents, fellow fencing widows (widowers) …
All of the above plus much more
Fencers of all ages are welcome to join in. Very sorry but this is not geared for novice fencers. Please can you ask your club coach encourage anyone over 13 (and under 103) that is competent, is or could be competitive, who would benefit from a day of personal development to come along and join in.
We have a guest coach to lead the fitness session and to be involved with the coaching, along with several regional coaches.
All fencers need to know how to look after their weapons - we have one of the top BFA armourers on hand to work with any one who wants to know how to look after their equipment. Please bring along any weapons that you have to work on. We are also holding a 2 hour formal Armoury course, this is aimed to give folk the confidence to help with club kit. For youngsters, 13 – 18, there is the opportunity to become a junior member of the Guild of Armourers (there is, however, a separate, £5 joining charge for this).
Do you, or do you know anyone who would like to understand how competitions are run, we will be spending some time explaining what you need to consider when running, or helping out at, a competition. This does not commit you to running anything, it is to ensure more folk understand what is going on and why things happen the way they do.
We need refs - there is the opportunity to brush up on ref’ing skills. If you are, or know any regular refs then this is a chance to check up on the latest rules, get confirmation of ones own ability and this will, in turn, act as a confidence booster when you find yourself in awkward situations. If you would, or know anyone who would like to start ref’ing then this is the opportunity to start learning the right way.
All clubs have new members - they need to be coached. Do you know any fencers who could possibly become coaches? Is it something you have considered? We will have people around to discuss what is required.
Are there u20’s at your club – do you realise that all clubs will eventually need the ‘clubmark’? We want clubs to get in early and work with us. We will be having a session that welcomes those already on route to getting clubmark as well as any club who would like to find out more. Together we will show that clubs in the Southern Region offer the best welcome, best coaching and best care available. Please make sure someone is involved with clubmark from your club.
Safeguarding Course (child protection and vulnerable adults) – are you a new or potential coach, you will need this. Have you done the course previously, check you are still in date (it lasts 3yrs). Would be Welfare Officer? you too need this course.
Special for this year, the lovely Saskia (the physio that many of you may have seen at various national competitions) will be working with all the fencers (and anyone else who would like to join in) in small groups to help them to help themselves prepare and keep their body fit for purpose.
So what does this cost…
The cost this year to those folk in the Southern Region is £20, but that includes all the activities and lunch, with an extra discount where more than one member of the household are attending - £15 per person. The cost to non Southern Fencing folk is £25pp.
