Oxford Fencing Club Oxford Fencing Club is a friendly club with a wide range of ages and abilities. It meets in the sports hall of Rye St Antony School, Franklin Road, Headington, Oxford: see location and new hall. Fencers from other clubs are very welcome as occasional visitors. See about us.
The club fences twice weekly: · Tuesday 8:00–10:00 · Friday 7:30–9:30 Summer fencing · We will fence at Rye St Antony until Friday 3 July. · We will then fence only once a week, on Tuesday 7, 14, 21 and 28 July, at Headington Community Centre, Gladstone Road, Oxford OX3 8LL. · There will be no fencing in the first two full weeks of August. · The 2009–10 season will start on Tuesday 18 August, when we will return to Rye on Tuesdays and Fridays. English youth championships At the English Youth Championships on 27-8 June Dan Barnes was 17th out of 52 in the U15 foil; Nuno Esteves was 8th out of 23 in the U15 sabre; Lydia Stanier was 5th out of 24 in the U13 epee and 9th out of 42 in the U13 foil; Alexander Hardie was 20th out of 59 in the U11 foil. Nuno in Lisbon Congratulations to Nuno Esteves on representing Portugal in the cadet/junior individual sabre and team events at the Mediterranean games in Lisbon on 20-2 June. Nuno put in creditable performances, even against highly ranked sabreurs from such countries as France and Italy, and gained invaluable experience of international fencing. Está bem feito, Nuno! BBO fencing picnic Several members took part in the very enoyable annual BBO fencing picnic at Bloxham on 21 June. In the usual junior-senior foil pairs event Gordon and Heloïse Hardie came 4th, Ben Worsfold's pair was 5th, Dan Barnes's 6th and Alexander Hardie's 17th (despite Alexander winning all his bouts but one).
