New sports hall

This year we are very fortunate to have the use of Rye St Antony’s newly built sports hall, both on Tuesday and on Friday. The great increase in time and space available for fencing should solve some of the club’s longstanding problems and make it easier to meet the needs both of novices and more experienced members, of recreational as well as competitive fencers. Exactly how to make best use of the Tuesday and Friday sessions will be a matter for experimentation.

This year there will be club fencing twice every week:

·       Tuesdays 8:0010:00

·       Fridays 7:309:30

·       classes for beginners and improvers will be scheduled for 7:00 to 8:00 on Tuesdays in certain weeks

The new hall is alongside the tennis courts beyond the hall we have used in recent years; please continue to use the same parking places.

On Tuesday 2 September we will be the first people to use the new hall. We must of course treat the new facilities with due respect and take care not to damage them in any way. Any inadvertent damage should be reported at once to a member of the club’s committee.

Certain conditions imposed by the school are of particular importance:

times of access

·       We may enter the hall 15 minutes before our session and we must leave the site within 15 minutes of its end.

·       That is to say that we must all have passed out of the school’s gates by 10:15 on Tuesday and by 9:45 on Friday.

·       In order to achieve this we will have to stop fencing and pack up our kit before the scheduled end of the session.

·       Everyone’s cooperation is needed in meeting this requirement, please.

non-marking shoes

·       All footwear must be clean, dry, free of grit, non-marking and strictly for indoor use only. Please be especially careful to wear non-marking soles at all times.

·       This requirement applies to spectators as well as fencers.

health and safety

·       Smoking and alcohol are prohibited on the premises.

·       Please note the position of first aid supplies, fire fighting apparatus and the emergency phone.

·       In the case of emergency evacuation the assembly point is the hockey pitch.

·       Any accident should be reported to a member of the club’s committee.

food and drink

·       Food and drink may be consumed only in the foyer.

·       An exception is made for fluids in dedicated plastic sports bottles.

lockers

·       coin-operated lockers are available in the changing rooms; they must be emptied at the end of the session.
