OFC Hosts Successful Inaugural “Future Champions Academy Foil Training Camp (Oxford)”

In February, OFC proudly hosted the inaugural Future Champions Academy Foil Training Camp (Oxford), led by renowned coach Maestro Darren Marks. Over an energising three days, Darren and his coaching team delivered an intensive programme designed to build both technical excellence and athletic performance. Participants took part in physical training, structured footwork sessions, specialised fencing exercises, one‑to‑one coaching, sports theory workshops, and a variety of competitive drills.

Supporting Darren was an exceptional team of top‑ranking foilists — Nolan Boeskin, Margherita Aventi, Blake DeGroot, and Reese Uhrich — who gave the camp a competitive atmosphere that encouraged every athlete to push their limits and develop new skills.

An enthusiastic attendee shared their experience:

“A sports camp like this is a fantastic opportunity to focus on your own development. The exercises helped me break everything down into specific parts and really improve them. I especially enjoyed the on‑piste challenges, where Darren put us into different scenarios — like being 2–0 down on the back line versus 2–0 up. It really helps you identify your weaknesses and, more importantly, think about how to overcome them.

We did a lot of fencing and finished with a super‑pool where everyone fenced everyone — totally exhausting physically and mentally, but incredibly rewarding. I really hope OFC runs another camp like this next year!”
